Majority Of Asylum Seekers Issued With Deportation From Ireland Are Currently Unaccounted For

Over 80% of failed asylum seekers who were issued with a deportation order in the last five years have an 'unknown status' here.

The figures were released via a freedom of information request.

Some 4,631 deportation orders have been issued by the Government to people whose asylum applications were rejected between 2018 and last year.

Gardai enforced 314 of these orders, that’s around 7%.

While the Department of Justice assisted another 430 people to self-deport, according to figures released in response to a parliamentary question.

However 3,887 asylum seekers who were issued with deportation orders have an unknown status; basically it isn't known if they left the state or not.
