Justice Minister Confirms €10million To Be Allocated For Garda Overtime In Dublin

87 new Garda recruits are graduating from Templemore in Tipperary today.

The Justice Minister has confirmed ten million euro is to be allocated for Garda overtime in Dublin.

The money will be made available immediately and will provide for 240-thousand extra Garda hours, or 20-thousand extra Garda shifts, in the Dublin Metropolitan Region.

However, the Garda Representative Association says the overtime is being offered because there's not enough resources to police the streets.

Minister Helen McEntee says the money will mean more visible Gardaí on the streets of the capital:

Meanwhile, 87 new Garda recruits are graduating from Templemore in Tipperary today.

62 of the new members of the force will be based in Dublin.

10 will be in the eastern region, 7 will be in the southern region, and 8 will be in the northwest.
