Ireland's Population Could Grow To Over Seven Million In The Next Forty Years

According to this new Department of Finance research.

Ireland's population could grow to over seven and a half million in the next forty years.

According to this new Department of Finance research, the state's population could grow to almost 7.6 million by 2065.

As part of a “scenario analysis” the department produced a range of population projections.

In the high-growth scenario, the population would grow by over two million; with inward migration increasing by 58,000 annually.

In its central growth scenario, with net migration of 40,000 each year, the population would increase to 6.8 million.

While in the low growth scenario, the population will reach 6 million within forty years.

The report says that Government departments should plan for a high-case migration scenario, to avoid infrastructure shortfalls in the future.
