File image: Rolling News

Fr. Niall Molloy died, violently, in 1985.

The government is rejecting calls for a commission of investigation into the brutal death of a Roscommon priest in 1985.

No one's ever been convicted in connection with Fr Niall Molloy's violent death in Clara, Co Offaly.

It took place in the home of Richard and Theresa Flynn, both of whom have passed away.

Junior Justice Minister James Browne says there'll be no commission of investigation - despite a call from Sinn Féin yesterday.

Fr Molloy's nephew, Bill Maher, says the response is very disappointing
