Gardaí have started writing to affected motorists today to inform them the fines and penalties issued for the speeding offences are being revoked.
Almost 1000 speeding charges are being revoked after Gardaí discovered a fault with a static speed camera.
The notices were issued to drivers travelling on the N25 in Kilkenny between the 30th of May and the 30th of June.
Gardaí have started writing to affected motorists today to inform them the fines and penalties issued for the speeding offences are being revoked.
Of the 914 fixed charge notices issued,128 were paid and penalty points applied, 56 were paid, but the error was identified before the points were applied, and of the remaining 730 notices, no payment was made before the error was identified, therefore no penalty points were applied.
Following a query on 30th June 2025, Gardaí confirmed an error with the offence location on Fixed Charge Notices coming from the Static Safety Camera.
They said it is a result of human error when inputting the offence location onto the system.
They explained that it was rectified immediately, and the camera resumed operations with detections from the 4th July being valid.
Gardaí are taking full responsibility for the error and are cancelling any relevant fines and penalty points.
Motorists impacted by this don't need to do anything, they will receive a letter in the post.
