Discusses stroke which saw him spend one year in hospital

In a rare public appearance, former Taoiseach Brian Cowen made a speech at yesterday's Fleadh Cheoil.

In 2019, Cowen suffered a stroke which saw him spend 12 months in hospital and confined to a wheelchair.

However the former Fianna Fáil leader is now walking with the aid of a crutch.

In an interview with The Irish Independent the 62 year-old said he was unconscious for two weeks, following the stroke.

Mr. Cowen spoke to crowds in Mullingar after receiving an award from Comhltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.
