CRU Confirms Increase Costs for Peak Time Energy Use

10% more expensive in peak hours 5pm to 7pm

The Commission for the Regulation of Utilities confirmed today that arge energy users and residential customers on 'smart tariffs' will have higher electricity costs during peak hours 5pm to 7pm

Peak time rates will be 10% higher than the day rate. The rate will be 10% lower in off-peak hours.

Only 38,000 residential customers with smart meters are availing of time-of-use tariffs.

There are approximately 950,000 smart meters installed across the country, with 100,000 are receiving data on their energy use.

The new charges will take effect from October.
