Climate Change: 'Fifty-Fifty Chance' Of Breaching 1.5C Warming Limit

Rising temperatures are linked to more extreme weather events.

Environmentalists have described a new report about increasing global temperatures as 'frightening'.

The world is now getting closer to internationally agreed limits on a rise in temperatures.

World leaders had pledged to try to keep it below 1.5 degrees within the next 5 years.

However, latest analysis from the World Metrological Organisation say the likelihood of crossing the threshold by 2026 has risen significantly.

Last year, the same forecasters put the odds at closer to 40%, and a decade ago it was only 10%.

Experts say there's now a fifty-fifty chance that temperatures will rise by more than 1.5 degrees by 2026.

The study from the World Meteorological Organisation had rated those chances as 'close to zero' back in 2015 - when the Paris Agreement was signed.
