Five people are confirmed dead, and more than 200 are injured - 40 seriously - after a car was driven into crowds at a Christmas market in Germany.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz has visited the scene at Magdeburg, laying flowers and speaking of the 'brutality' of the killing.

State premier Reiner Haseloff was there too - speaking through an interpreter, he says there will be a vigil later.
