A massive power outage has hit large parts of Spain and Portugal.

Both countries' governments have called emergency meetings, while Spain's grid operator says it could take up to 10 hours to fix the problem.

REN, the operator of the Portuguese power grid, said that power supply interruptions in Portugal were due to a fault in the Spanish electricity grid related to a rare atmospheric phenomenon.
