400 Jobs Announced For Tipperary In €80M Investment

Boston Scientific already operates a Centre of Excellence for medical additives at its Clonmel site

More than 400 new jobs are to be created by Boston Scientific in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.

The US medical technology company is to invest €80m in the expansion of its manufacturing and research and development (R&D) capabilities there.

The money is to be used in expanding manufacturing and office space, with recruitment already under way in a variety of areas including production, engineering, quality, supply chain and R&D.

The business already operates a Centre of Excellence for medical additives at the site where it has had a presence for 25 years.

Medical devices made there are used to help patients suffering from heart disease, neurological disorders, kidney stones and diseases of the pancreas, bile ducts and oesophagus.

As part of the investment, the plant is to be transitioned so that it sources more than 90% of its energy needs from renewables.

The investment has been supported by the Government through IDA Ireland.
