20,232 vehicles were licensed in July.

The number of new cars licensed in July 2021 rose by 32 per cent when compared to the same month last year.

20,232 vehicles were licensed last month, up from 15,329 in July 2020.

CSO figures show, in the first seven months of the year, 14 per cent of the cars registered for the first time were electric or plug in hybrid vehicles.

That up from 6 per cent for the same period in 2020.

There was a drop of more than 2,600 in the number of used private cars licensed in July compared to July last year.
