A woman has died after an assault in Co Meath, she was found unresponsive at a house in Athboy overnight.
A man has been arrested in connection with the assault.
The national ambulance service was called to a house in the Rathmore area of Athboy in Co. Meath in the early hours of this morning after a call alerting them to a woman in an unresponsive state.
The woman in her 20's was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardaí from Kells were called in and say they're now investigating all of the circumstances of what they've described as a 'fatal assault'.
A man aged in his 30's was arrested at a different location and is now being held under section 4 of the criminal justice act at Ashbourne garda station.
The woman's body remains at the scene and the office of the state pathologist has been called in to conduct an initial post mortem.
A senior investigating officer has now been assigned and an incident room as been set up at Kells garda station while enquiries are ongoing.
