Will Robots Replace Jobs In Kildare SuperValu Stores? Company Not In Position To Comment

The Journal

The company has stores throughout Kildare, including in Maynooth, Sallins, Clane, Celbridge, Kilcock, Naas, Monasterevin, Leixlip, Athy, and Newbridge.

SuperValu has told Kfm it "won't be making a statement at this time" after we asked if robots being used in some of its stores will replace human workers.

The company was also not in a position to confirm if the robots would be rolled out locally after initial trial results are completed.

The robots are in use at the Swords Pavilions and Rathborne, Dublin 15 branches of SuperValu.

The company has stores throughout Kildare, including in Maynooth, Sallins, Clane, Celbridge, Kilcock, Naas, Monasterevin, Leixlip, Athy, and Newbridge.

The robots, called Tally, are marketed as a way to take "the tedious work out of manual inventory management".

It scans shelves and other areas, to provide a 99% accurate view of inventory, pricing, and promotions.

The company behind the robot claims that shoppers love it so much that they spend more time and money in stores when the robot is around.

Speaking to The Journal, Keith Pollard of Mandate said staff at the stores have expressed concern.

He said the company reassured him that headcount and working hours will not be impacted.
