The rain may cause spot flooding in places
Widespread heavy rain and thundery downpours will sweep across the country today, with spot flooding and travel disruption possible, as Met Éireann issues weather warnings.
A Status Yellow rain warning for Kildare, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Dublin, Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Wicklow, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo will come into effect at 5pm.
The warning will remain in effect until 6am tomorrow.
The rain may cause spot flooding in places and wave overtopping on eastern facing coasts.
A Status Yellow rain warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Galway and Munster will be in effect from 2pm this afternoon until 3am tomorrow.
Met Éireann is forecasting heavy and persistent rain, which will move in across the south and southwest this afternoon.
Heavy and thundery downpours will then extend nationwide during the evening.
A Status Yellow wind warning will also be in operation for Leinster and Munster from 9pm tonight until 6am tomorrow.
