This contract could lay the foundations for a similar centre along the Barrow Blueway and the Grand Canal Greenway
Waterways Ireland wants to develop a visitor centre for the Royal Canal Greenway.
The route, along the Royal Canal, stretches for 130km from Maynooth to Longford Town
WI says "It has potential for local / community use as a recreational space, to attract domestic visitors from Ireland, and to cater for an international audience, interested in completing a long-distance experience."
It has tendered for a contract to assist in development of a visitor faciliy, to "uncover the story of the RCG and integrate that into the journey, so it resonates with best prospect visitors."
It wants to develop the greenway as a " premier tourism destination, and enable the development of marketable Greenway Experiences."
This contract could lay the foundations for a similar centre along the Barrow Blueway and the Grand Canal Greenway, both of which have footprints in Kildare.
The deadline for responses is July 21st.
