"Voluntary" School Fees Portrayed As Compulsory, Education Minister Pressed For Clarity

Under the Education Act, schools in the Free Education Scheme cannot charge mandatory fees, and any contribution requests must be clearly stated as voluntary.

The Department of Education is being asked to make it clear when school payments are voluntary.

There's been claims letters sent to parents often make charges look compulsory, creating pressure and leaving teachers and principals acting as debt collectors.
