Vital Community Services Under Threat, Say Postmasters In Call for State Funding

Last year, Leixlip post office closed its doors, with the closure impacting over 20,000 locals.

Postmasters are warning of widespread post office closures unless the Government commits to urgent funding.

A new report by Grant Thornton says 15 million euro a year over five years is needed to keep the network alive.

The Irish Postmasters' Union says it amounts to less than €3 per person per year, which it says is ‘less than the price of a cup of coffee.’

In the last number of years, services like social welfare and passports have been put online.
