A former member of the notorious Westies gang is understood to be one of three masked men who broke into a Maynooth woman's home before stealing two of her cars.

It's understood that she was pushed to the ground. Her two young children were in bed at the time.

A man linked to the gang has been arrested following a dramatic high-speed chase across parts of Dublin and Meath, according to the Irish Independent.

The 50-year-old man from Blanchardstown was apprehended after he rammed a garda car and drove dangerously through several areas, including the N4 motorway near Lucan, in a stolen van belonging to the woman's partner.

The red Ford Transit van had been stolen during the aggravated burglary in Maynooth, along with a Volkswagen Touran.

The masked men tried to steal an electric car but could not disconnect it from its power supply.

Gardaí spotted the vehicle nearly 48 hours later and attempted to intercept it, prompting the suspect to flee and ram a patrol car, causing minor damage but no injuries.
