UPDATE: An Taisce Withdraws Appeal Against Proposed Service Station At Derelict Naas Site

Derelict former Cemex site in Naas

It follows pushback from councillors on the Naas MD

Kfm understands that An Taisce has written to An Bord Pleanala to withdraw its appeal against a proposal for a service station development at the former Cemex site on the Dublin Road in Naas.

Applegreen has been granted approval for a €17 million project, which includes a service station and electric vehicle hub covering 10,000 square metres.

News emerged last week that An Taisce had filed an appeal to An Bord Pleanala, understood to centre around the long-term sustainability of transportation, and the appeal was likely based on the view that a service station would encourage car usage, which contradicts many climate action goals.

Several local councillors from the Naas Municipal District expressed their frustration with the appeal, with some calling it "disgusting" and "disgraceful."

Kfm can now reveal that the appeal has been withdrawn, paving the way for the service station to be developed.

The application includes the demolition of all existing buildings and the construction of a new electric vehicle (EV) charging hub, a distribution centre, a service station and a drive-thru café.

Additional infrastructure includes parking for 169 vehicles, cycle lanes, pedestrian pathways, and outdoor recreational spaces.

The proposal also involves modifications to local roads, including a new slip lane and entrance improvements, as part of an access strategy agreed with Kildare County Council.
