Uisce Éireann is appealing to people in Kildare to conserve water as the country enters a stretch of warm weather.
Several regions, including counties Dublin, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, Cork, Galway, Donegal, Meath, Westmeath, Clare, and Wexford are experiencing increased pressure on water supply.
It’s encouraging households and businesses to make simple changes to help ease the strain.
“While the warmer weather is welcome, it places extra pressure on our water supplies,” said Eoghan Forristal, Water Operations Lead for Kildare. “We’re asking people to think about how they use water and take small steps to reduce waste.”
Some of the tips include:
- Ditch the hose – A hose can use as much water in an hour as a family uses in a day. Use a watering can instead.
- Use a bucket and sponge – Washing your car this way can save hundreds of litres compared to a hose.
- Turn off the tap – Don’t leave the tap running while brushing your teeth.
- Take shorter showers – Cutting a shower from five minutes to four could save up to seven litres of water.
- Fully load dishwashers and washing machines – This saves both water and energy.
Uisce Éireann says it’s committed to maintaining a reliable water supply through the summer, but public support is essential.
“Simple changes at home or at work can make a real difference to our water reserves,” Mr Forristal added. “Every small action counts.”
