Uisce Éireann is appealing to everyone to be mindful of their use of water as the warm dry spell looks set to continue through the weekend and into next week.
Eoghan Forristal, Uisce Éireann’s Head of Water Operations in County Kildare, said that while the current sunny spell is very welcome, it has led to an increase in use of water across the county.
This appeal comes as over 20 supplies around the country are officially in drought status across counties Limerick, Kerry, Tipperary, Waterford, Cork, Clare, Galway, Mayo, Donegal, Meath, Westmeath, Carlow, Waterford and Wexford.
These include three supplies where Water Conservation Orders have been in place since May 6 - Mullingar, Co Westmeath; Milford, Co Donegal; and Kells-Oldcastle, Co Meath.
Uisce Éireann is monitoring all supplies closely and taking measures to maintain normal supplies through interventions such as tankering to reservoirs, nighttime restrictions and pressure management.
By taking some simple steps to conserve water at home, in the garden and at work, people can play their part in protecting local water supplies for themselves and their neighbours.
