Time Table Changes Along The Grand Canal Route Affecting Local Commuters In Sallins And Hazelhatch

Minister James Lawless addressed this issue and has met with Irish Rail

Local commuters who travel along the Grand Canal train route via Sallins and Hazelhatch stations have been affected by the change of time tables.

Speaking on this morning's Kildare Today programme, Minister of State and Transport James Lawless has said he met with Irish Rail regarding this issue.

Originally, commuters could get on at Sallins or Hazelhatch and make their way into the likes of Pearse Street or Grand Canal Dock, which is an approximate 50 minute journey.

Due to congestion at Connolly Station, it was proposed that commuters would make a switch in trains, and get the Dart.

Many commuters have found this an inconvenience, as it would no longer be a direct journey.

For example, those commuting from Sallins would have to get off at Connolly and take another train or Dart.

Speaking to Lawless, Irish Rail said this would not affect all commuters, as the changes would be implemented to two services in the morning, and from 4pm-12am.

They also said that for those who now have to get off at Connolly, a connecting train would be waiting on the opposite side of the platform for them to use would have a window of 2-6 minutes to make those connections.

The argument being made is that these timetable changes in the morning affect many people across Kildare, and could now create a stressful and inconvenient commuting experience that did not exist before.
