Thousands Of Workers Could Find Their Short-Term Work Support Payments Come To An Abrupt End.

Sinn Féin TD is calling on government to extend the scheme.

Potentially thousands of workers across Ireland could be left without supplementary income when their Short-Term Work Support payments end.

This payment is akin to a job-seekers benefit.

It gives people supplementary income if their working hours have been reduced temporarily by their employer to three days or less a week.

This payment is distinct from the Pandemic Unemployment Payment, and is only paid for a total period of 234 days, dependent upon the claimant's PRSI contributions.

However, unless government extends the duration of the payment, many people's entitlement to it will expire shortly.

Sinn Féin TD, Claire Kerrane, is Spokesperson on Social Protection, Community, Rural Development and the Islands.

She joined Ciara Noble on Wednesday's edition of Kildare Today.
