The Department of Education says its not possible.
Momentum is building for a student-led campaign, calling for a hybrid Leaving Cert to go ahead again this year.
It comes as the State Examination Commission said it would be impossible to give students the option of an accredited grade, as many have not sat the Junior Cert.
However, the hashtag “Hybrid-LC-2022” is gaining traction online, as sixth years make their views known.
Many want the option to accept an accredited grade in their leaving cert instead of sitting the exams in their traditional form.
Currently the Department is set to run two sets of exams this summer, to cater for anyone who can’t attend the Leaving Cert in June.
There will also be a wider choice of question options on the papers.
The TUI and the ASTI unions representing teachers are firmly against the hybrid leaving cert for 2022:
