Stormy Overnight Weather Leaves Thousands Without Electricity

ESB Networks work to repair major fault in the Athy area.

Power is being restored to hundreds of Kildare homes and businesses after stormy overnight weather, caused numerous outrages.

Over 1,000 customers were affected in the Athy area.

ESB Networks have also been working to repair faults in Clane, Kilcock, Nurney and Claverstown.

There were also outages in Kilcullen and Ballitore.

Road users are being warned about difficult travelling conditions, due to fallen branches, standing water and localised flooding.

Gusts of up to 110 kilometres per hour were forecast for the southern areas of the country.

Gerry Murphy from Met Éireann says the Dublin region was hit with the most rainfall overnight.
