Over 3,500 students will take part.

In September this year, a group of primary schools in South Kildare will introduce a Voluntary Smartphone Pact, aimed at addressing concerns about the use of personal smartphones by children under 12.

Over 3,500 students will take part.

The initiative is in alignment with the Department of Education’s recommendations and is spearheaded by the schools' Parent Councils.

Speaking on Kildare Today, Netanya Curtis-Douglas, Parents' Association, Kildare Town Educate Together, said the aim is to support parents and their children to make "smart and safe" choices when using their gadgets.

The Alliance includes Bunscoil Bhríde, Gaelscoil Mhic Aodha, Kildangan NS, Kildare Town Educate Together NS, Scoil Na Tríonóide Naofa Allen, Scoil Bhride Lackagh, Scoil Bhríde Nurney, Scoil Bhride Milltown, St. Brigid’s NS Ballysax, St. Brigid’s Primary School, St. Patrick’s BNS Rathangan, and Suncroft National School.
