There was a 56 percent jump in the number of electrical appliances being recycled during the first Covid-19 lockdown - compared to the same months the previous year.

Research from the European Recycling Platform show there was a big jump in washing machines, ovens and dishwashers being disposed of in April and May last year.
One in four Irish adults recycled a kettle, while 19 percent say they got rid of a television in this way.
The study also shows that 30 percent of people are unaware that electrical retailers can recycle electronic items for free.
