Senator Fiona O'Loughlin Re-Introduces Bill To Make Catfishing A Criminal Offence

The Bill is expected to be amended before the summer

A Bill aimed at making catfishing a criminal offence is expected to be amended in the Seanad before the summer.

The Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Bill was reintroduced by Fianna Fail Senator Fiona O'Loughlin today.

It would cover the practise of using a phone or computer to impersonate another person without their consent, interfering with their peace, privacy or day-to-day life.

Changes to the Bill would then need to be finalised, before being brought to the Dail chamber.

Senator O'Loughlin says new provisions would give Gardai the power to act on this ‘very serious crime’:
