Ryanair Boss Defends Staff Bonuses For Catching Oversized Bags

For every passenger caught, staff make €1.50, and can make up to €80 a month.

The boss of Ryanair says he fully backs bonuses paid to staff who catch passengers trying to bring oversized bags on flights.

Passengers have to pay €75 if they can't fit their hand luggage into the airline's 'sizers'.

For every passenger caught, staff make €1.50, and can make up to €80 a month.

Group Chief Executive, Michael O'Leary, said he stands by that.

Meanwhile, the airline has warned that delays in new Boeing aircraft will lead to slightly higher fares this year.

It expects growth to reach just 3 per cent, with the delay putting a squeeze on capacity.

The airline had aimed for stronger summer growth, but now expects only modest fare increases for the rest of the year after a spike in the first three months of the year.

It has reported a record-breaking Quarter One profit of 820 million euro, more than double the same period last year.

The airline flew nearly 58 million passengers, with average fares rising 21 per cent.

Despite delivery delays on new aircraft from Boeing, Ryanair still expects to grow to 206 million passengers this year.
