Road Safety Events Being Held In Athy College This Week, Including A Simulated Driving Experience

Other events include road safety talks, a safe urban walk, a supervised 10k cycle, and more

Athy College are running a Road Safety Week this week in light of the escalating road deaths, particularly among young people.

The idea was prompted by Barry Keatley of Virtual Driving Hub, based in Athy, who supplied a driving simulator with an instructor to Athy College for the full week.

This allows students to train and learn to drive in an environmentally friendly setting, as well as benefitting from the 21st century learning method of driving.

With support from Kildare County Council Sports Partnership, the RSA, Infinity Cycle, Civil Defence and Gardaí, Athy College will be holding multiple events to highlight road safety.

These include road safety talks, a safe urban walk, a supervised 10k cycle, a bicycle maintenance workshop, segway training for Transition Year and Leaving Cert Applied students, along with a road safety quiz and multiple other events.
