Retained Firefighters Back Labour Court Deal To Settle Pay Dispute, SIPTU Confirms

Kildare has six fire stations, with Naas and Newbridge being the only ones that have a full-time station officer each rather than a retained one. All other fire fighters across the six stations are retained, meaning firefighters are paid a retainer and carry pagers in order to respond to calls.

SIPTU retained firefighters have voted to accept a Labour Court recommendation aimed at resolving a long-running pay dispute with 64% balloting in favour and 36% against.

In June 2023, retained firefighters took part in strike action demanding better pay and conditions.
