In an update to Kfm this afternoon, a spokesperson for Uisce Eireann said surveys and design work will take around six months, before a full construction timeline is confirmed for residents.
Site investigations on the long-troubled water network in Horsepasstown, near Poulaphouca, are due to begin in October.
Residents in the area have been under a boil water notice for six years, with one 87-year-old resident explaining how her life has been impacted.

They said Uisce Eireann and the ESB are working together on plans to upgrade almost four kilometres of mains to modern standards.
ESB owns the mains but they submitted an application to Uisce Eireann to take the water mains in charge.
The ongoing boil notice has caused stress for over 20 residents, including elderly people and a family with young children.
Speaking to Kfm earlier, 87-year-old resident Kay Ward said it would "be like a dream to have running tap water".
In a separate statement to Kfm, ESB apologised to residents.
