Mr. McCarthy took the final seat in the Dublin University/Trinity College constituency
Independent candidate and Punchestown native Aubrey McCarthy has clinched the final seat in the Dublin University/Trinity College constituency in the Seanad elections.
Mr. McCarthy, founder of the drug rehabilitation charity Tiglin, was confirmed as elected after a full recount requested by Green Party candidate Hazel Chu.
Ms. Chu made the request due to the narrow margin separating her and Mr. McCarthy.
Following the recount, Mr. McCarthy received 3,770 votes, while Ms. Chu garnered 3,706 votes.
Independent candidates Lynn Ruane and Tom Clonan were also elected to the constituency yesterday.
Aubrey will speak to Kfm on the Kildare Today programme on Tuesday morning.
