The entirety of Kildare is an RPZ, and potential caps of 2% a year could apply.

The Housing Minister needs to establish a Commission to assess the pros and cons of rent caps, according to the Irish Property Owners Association.

It's making the call as Cabinet is set to approve measures which would see rent increases of 2 percent in rent pressure zones.

The entirety of Kildare is an RPZ, and there are around 12,000 households in privately rented accommodation in the county.

Minister Darragh O'Brien had originally changed the rules earlier this year to link rent hikes to inflation, but has since rowed back on that plan.
