Re-opening delayed following stark advice from NPHET.

A professor says it is not the case that Ireland is an outlier in not resuming indoor dining.

The re-opening of indoor dining will be delayed by at least two weeks after a late night meeting of Ministers last night.

It followed stark figures that were given by NPHET to the cabinet sub-committee about the Delta variant.

Cabinet's due to meet this morning to finalise the plans, with Taoiseach Micheál Martin making an official announcement this afternoon.

Tomás Ryan is an Associate Professor of Neuroscience at the School of Biochemistry and Immunology at Trinity College Dublin.

He is also a member of the Independent Scientific Advisory Group and, speaking to Kildare Today, says it is not the case that Ireland is performing well in comparison to counterparts across Europe.

Prof. Ryan joined Clem Ryan on Tuesday's edition of Kildare Today.
