The President of Maynooth University is among 27 new inductees in to the Royal Irish Academy.
Prof. Philip Nolan has been admitted by RIA President Dr Mary Canning during a virtual ceremony this afternoon.
The new Members were elected for their exceptional contribution to the sciences, humanities and social sciences as well as to public service.
In his citation, Prof Nolan is noted as “a distinguished researcher, teacher and administrator, who has received several prestigious research awards as well as the President’s Teaching Award at University College Dublin. He has provided outstanding leadership to Maynooth University since his appointment as president in 2011. Most recently, he has chaired the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group, with responsibility for advising government on the response to the Covid-19 virus, and has earned national admiration for his dedication and sound counsel.”
