The project is being part-funded, to the tune of €500,000, by Coca Cola, following its re-location of one of its factories from the town.

Preparation for the beginning of construction of Athy's Food, Drinks & Skills Innovation Hub has begun.

The Kildare County Council development, in the former Model School building, is designed to foster economic development and creative learning in the town and surrounding areas.

The project is being part-funded, to the tune of €500,000, by Coca Cola, following its re-location of one of its factories from the town.

In a public consultation in April, KCC indicated that the project would involve construction of innovation kitchens, co-working spaces, a showcase café and ancillary works.

The council has now called for expressions of interest for construction works, in a restricted procedure tender.

The deadline for submissions is November 15th.
