The CSO today released its Regional Population Projections 2023-2042
The population of Ireland is projected to increase to between 5.7 and 6.4 million by 2042.
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has released its Regional Population Projections 2023-2042.
CSO data shows the mid-east region, which includes Kildare, Meath, Louth and Wicklow, is expected to see the largest increases.
The Mid-East region which accounted for 14.9% of the total population share in 2022, is projected to increase under all three scenarios to between 15.5% and 16.1% by 2042.
The body also says it's expected the numbers of those over the age of 65 in the country is expected to increase significantly over the next two decades.
