Planning permission has been granted for the construction of a €20 million solar farm in the townland of Griffinrath, just outside Celbridge.

The development will consist of the construction of a solar PV farm with an operational life of 35 years.

It will comprise of around 76,000 photovoltaic panels on ground mounted frames within a site of just over 44 hectares.

The plans also include associated ancillary development including 10 transformer stations, 124 string-inverters, a 38kv substation and CCTV security cameras.

Perimeter security fencing will also be erected, along with an internal hardcore access road between the solar panels.

A 38kv underground electricity cable from the onsite substation will be installed and connected to the Griffinrath substation, approximately 750m away from the site.
