The Pandemic Unemployment Payment officially winds down today.
Last week, more than 44,000 people received their final PUP installment.
Those who are eligible will now be transferred over to Jobseeker's Allowance.
The scheme, which was originally set up as a short-term emergency measure, has been running for 2 years at a cost of €9 billion.
The payment was introduced as 32% of the population were left without employment.
According to a People Before Profit TD, the Pandemic Unemployment Payment has shown it's not impossible to pay everyone a decent wage.
Paul Murphy says the state should see the end of the PUP as an opportunity to increase social welfare payments:
