The National Transport Authority (NTA) has agreed to explore an early and mid-morning public bus route connecting Kilmead to Athy.
The earliest bus currently leaves Kilmead at 12.48pm, with residents saying they often have difficulty attending appointments or catching trains.
Kildare South Senator, Mark Wall, who met with the NTA, said: "I have been contacted by a growing number of residents of Kilmead and indeed Calverstown and Kilcullen about an early morning service to Athy. The current earliest go ahead 130 route only arrives in Athy at 1pm which is too late for many users who have appointments in Athy, work in the town or want to catch a train."
He said the NTA agreed that the current early morning service was not acceptable and proposed to look at extending the service with the current operator.
"I welcome the commitment of the NTA to look at this service; it would mean a lot for the residents of Kilmead, Calverstown and indeed Kilcullen to have proper public transport linkages into the town of Athy and I will be following up with the NTA on their promise to look at extending the current service," Senator Wall said.
