The National Public Health Emergency Team says there's been an enormous reduction in deaths associated with Covid-19.

Professor Philip Nolan, President of Maynooth University and chair of NPHET's modelling advisory group, says there are strong grounds for optimism due to the effects of the vaccine.

This is really good news on vaccine impact. We knew that vaccination was reducing the numbers of infections in older people, but early and preliminary data suggests that it is also reducing the severity of infection, so the risk of severe disease or death is lower. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/r8h9aGZNiV
