No Murder Upgrade For Trevor Deely Case Following Garda Review - Unless New Evidence Emerges

The cases will remain under review, but no new resources are being allocated unless fresh evidence emerges.

Gardaí have ruled out upgrading any further missing persons cases to murder investigations -  including that of Naas man Trevor Deely, who vanished in Dublin in December 2000.

The decision, according to the Irish Times, follows a Garda review which led to murder inquiries being opened in the cases of Fiona Pender and Elizabeth Clarke, resulting in major search operations in Offaly and Meath.

However, the force confirmed no additional cases -  such as that of Deely or schoolboy Philip Cairns, missing since 1986 -  met the criteria for reclassification at this time.

The cases will remain under review, but no new resources are being allocated unless fresh evidence emerges.

Searches for Annie McCarrick's remains have been carried out in Clondalkin, following her case being upgraded to a murder investigation last year - three decades after her disappearance.
