Newbridge Guidance Counsellor Calls For Apprenticeships For Her Students

She has asked employers to contact her.

There are a lack of supports available for students who want to do an apprenticeship when they leave school, rather than go to college.

Guidance Counsellor, St. Conleth's Community College, Anne Molloy spoke on Kildare Today about the issue facing pupils in her schools

She wants potential employer to get involved and inform schools if they have apprenticeships coming up in May.

"Not all students are college bound, they don't want that, but they do want certification and a good job at the end of it.

"I have one specific sixth year who is going to go to college, but his dream is to be an electrician," she said.

"I'm looking for permanent apprenticeships for students after they finish the Leaving Cert in June," she added.
