A newly installed dog waste station at the end of the Southern Distributor Road in Athy has been extensively damaged in a recent act of vandalism.
A firework or banger appears to have been set off inside the bag holder, causing significant destruction to the unit.
The station had only recently been installed following requests from local residents.
The incident is one of several reports of anti-social behaviour in the town over the past week.
Other incidents, according to Cllr Mark Leigh (Lab), have included bins being set on fire in a housing estate, stones thrown at passing vehicles, and the use of illegal fireworks since September.
He described the behaviour as "disheartening", noting that the facilities were provided to benefit the entire community.
