National Broadband Plan Will Only Connect 60,000 Homes This Year, Half Its Target.

In Kildare alone, 14,000 premises cannot access the internet

Only 60,000 premises will be connected under the National Broadband Plan this year - compared to the original target of 115,000.

The figures are according to the Department of Communications, which is appearing before an Oireachtas committee today.

Only 27,000 premises have been connected so far, due to delays caused by Covid.

Former communications minister, Denis Naughten, says the targets for 2022 have also been revised

Only 70,000 homes will be connected under the National Broadband Plan in 2022, which is 20,000 fewer than the initial target
