A teenager from Naas has won the 'Young Reporter for the Environment' national competition.
Mark Monaghan, from Piper’s Hill College in Naas, was commended for showing originality and creativity in his 3-minute video addressing the climate crisis.
Mark, whose video was awarded for its clarity and accessibility in communicating climate change, expressed his mission with his YouTube channel, "So-Called Switch," aiming to make climate change understandable and actionable for newcomers.
His school took to Instagram to congratulate him.
The YRE National Competition, a leadership program open to students aged 11-25, saw ten students selected as winners from a pool of 50 Green-Schools across Ireland.
Participants were tasked with investigating local environmental issues related to Climate Change, Biodiversity Loss, and Environmental Pollution.
Entries were judged based on the students' ability to identify local issues, propose solutions, and link them to the broader global context, particularly through the lens of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
