Naas Regains Title Of 'Cleanest Town' As Maynooth Maintains Strong Performance In IBAL Survey

The survey, carried out in partnership with An Taisce, commended Naas for its significant improvements and ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness.

Naas has reclaimed its title as Ireland's cleanest town, according to the latest survey conducted by Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL).

The town, which lost the top spot to Maynooth in 2023, has climbed back to the number-one position, with Maynooth ranking fifth in the 2024 survey of 40 towns and cities.

The survey, carried out in partnership with An Taisce, commended Naas for its significant improvements and ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness.

The An Taisce report praised several initiatives and sites in Naas, including the recently opened Naas Plaza, which was described as "spotless" during the survey.

The report highlighted the Canal Bank and Basin area as a standout feature, noting the expansion of the area to include the 'Naas Community Garden,' which features vibrant low-lying planting.

The area was described as more than just a waterside amenity, reflecting a commitment to community engagement and environmental care.

Additionally, the report noted that the derelict site at the Canal Basin was well-maintained, with no litter present, showcasing ongoing attention to detail in maintaining public spaces.

Maynooth also earned high praise for its sustained success following its 2023 victory.

The report highlighted several top-ranking sites, including Leinster Street, the SuperValu Shopping Centre, and Court House Square, the latter described as a "lovely town centre environment, attractively laid out and well maintained."

The report noted, however, that the Lidl car park was moderately littered.

The only city to be judged clean is Galway which replaced Waterford in last year's survey.

Dublin hasn't fared well coming in on the survey as littered along with Limerick, and Cork Northside.

The north inner city is at the bottom of the table.

IBAL's Conor Horgan said Kildare has done extremely well.
