Naas Hospital's New Injury Unit Set to Alleviate Pressure on A&E

The unit, operating seven days a week from 10 am to 8 pm, will not treat patients under 16 years of age.

In an effort to alleviate pressure on the Naas General Hosptial A&E department, the HSE is gearing up to launch a new Injury Unit at the hospital on Monday, January 29th.

The unit is part of a broader initiative to establish Injury Units nationwide, following the national framework.

KFM understands that over the past few weeks,  the HSE and Naas Hospital have collaborated with local General Practitioners (GPs) and Kdoc to discuss the project. The Naas Hospital Injury Unit will specifically cater to minor injuries.

The unit, operating seven days a week from 10 am to 8 pm, will not treat patients under 16 years of age.

Patients eligible for treatment at the new facility include those with:

  • Broken bones, sprains, and strains from knees to toes
  • Broken bones, sprains, and strains from collarbone to fingertips
  • Minor facial injuries, including oral, dental, and nasal injuries
  • Minor scalds and burns
  • Wounds, bites, cuts, grazes, and scalp lacerations
  • Small abscesses and boils
  • Splinters and fish hooks
  • Objects stuck in eyes, ears, or nose
  • Minor head injuries (fully conscious patients without loss of consciousness or vomiting after the head injury)
